Gisborne Vineyards

Gisborne, with the first vines in the world to see the sun each day, is New Zealand's third largest vineyard region, comprising 15.6% of the national crop.

Chardonnay is the key grape, comprising over half of all plantings, producing soft, lush, tropical-fruit flavours that characterise most of Gisborne's white wines.

Montana has invested heavily in the region's vineyards and its hugely popular Montana Gisborne Chardonnay, first made in 1973, is one of its biggest-volume wines. Situated on Solander Street in the heart of Gisborne, daily tastings at 10.30am and 2pm are free of charge, with the cellar door being open from 10am-5pm.

Gisborne is also the gateway to the unspoilt East Cape region and the city offers popular surf beaches, restaurants and historical sites.
