Taupo Heli-Fishing & Fly-Fishing

Summer time in Taupo is the dry fly and heli-fishing Mecca.

The tributary streams will still produce smaller fish to a well presented dry fly but most often the action is in the hills to the east of Lake Taupo. Although the thrill of a big fish rising to take a tiny dry is an experience not to be missed, a weighted nymph drifted through the deep pools will also bring heart-stopping action.

The helicopter has opened up the rivers of the Kaweka, Kaimanawa and Urewera ranges to the fly fishermen. Such rivers as the Ngaruroro, Rangitikei, Mohaka, Raukituri and Waiau, to name just a few, produce brown and rainbow trout of trophy size. Taupo heli-fishing and fly-fishing is an experience not to be missed on any trip to New Zealand, whether you're a keen fisherman or otherwise!
