Hiking Routes

Hiking and walking, or as New Zealanders call it, "tramping", routes within New Zealand's forests, mountain ranges, rivers and coasts are almost infinite.

There are literally thousands of kilometers of public tracks on conservation land to choose from, although just a dozen or so multi-day walks that consistently appear on seasoned trampers' "to do" list.

We have showcased a number of classic single- and multi-day walks, all of which can be guided, and several of which are designated "Great Walks" by the Department of Conservation.

All are along well-constructed tracks that are easy to follow, with major obstacles like rivers safely bridged, and a high standard of catered accommodation is available.

The popularity of all the multi-day hikes is such that shared bunk-room or private room space in catered accommodation in peak season must be booked ahead of your walk.

Click on one of the show-cased hiking routes below for further information on each walk, any one or more of which could be incorporated into your itinerary.
