Scuba Diving

In New Zealand the water and weather are both temperate, and there is a huge variety of marine life for scuba diving enthusiasts to explore.

The principal dive area is north of Auckland, the most famous area being the Poor Knights Islands.

There are, however, other areas on the upper east coast of the north island, stretching all the way from Three Kings Islands (45 miles north-east of Cape Reinga) down through the Cavalli Islands, the Bay of Islands, the Mercury Islands, the Alderman Islands, and Mayor and Motiti Islands, with a myriad dive sites in between.

The furthest south on this stretch of water, and one which many consider as good as, if not better than, Poor Knights, is the volcanic White Island.

At the top of the South Island, Marlborough Sounds have their adherents, but many claim the best diving in New Zealand is down the bottom, in spectacular Fiordland. Stewart Island, off the south coast of the South Island is also acquiring a reputation among the more adventurous divers.

We've chosen 3 areas to showcase scuba diving options that we could integrate into a New Zealand itinerary for you:
